EVS - Clémence

Hi everyone !

I’m a volunteer in this school for more than 6 months already but I don’t think all the students know who I’m… so there is!
My name is Clémence (and since I’m in Finland, I noticed it’s not the easiest name to pronounce..!). I’m from Belgium, more precisely from Ath, a town in the French board (because, even if my country is not that big, we speak 3 different languages there, with Dutch and German in addition to French). I never had the chance to travel during my childhood, just twice with the school and for short days. That’s why, when I was 17, I decided to take the matter into my own hands. My principal aim was to improve my English but, in the same time, be close to the people and not study. By luck, I discovered the European Volunteer Service (EVS) and knew directly it was for me. I applied for some projects in the Nordic Countries, being attracted by them for some years but I don’t really know why. After a stressful period without getting any news, a hosting organization contacted me finally.
In September, I took the first time of my life the plane. I discovered a new country I really like, I travelled in, I met a lot of different people from all the Europe, I learned to live by myself, without my parents for doing the meals or laundries, I saw how the schools are working here, … and my English really improved even if it’s still not perfect.
Arriving almost to the end of my EVS, thinking about my future studies in Belgium and how will my life be after this exceptional experience, I’m just more than grateful to all the people I met here, the teachers and students included. :)
